Single Tooth Replacements with Dental Implants in San Diego
If you are missing a tooth, then single tooth replacements by using dental implants may be an option for you. Having a missing tooth may not only lower your confidence and change your appearance, but it can also dramatically impact your mouth’s function. In addition, there’s the possibility of the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth also falling out. To avoid any of these complications, we provide dental implant surgery for single tooth replacements.
Dental implants have several advantages when compared to other tooth replacement alternatives, such as a bridge. A titanium dental implant looks and functions exactly like a natural tooth: You can chew, laugh, and talk as you would normally. Also, dental implants will not sacrifice the overall health of your other teeth, as other alternatives often do (for example, if you choose a tooth-supported fixed bridge, the adjacent teeth must be ground down). Choosing a dental implant for a single tooth replacement allows your bone to be better preserved, as the implant will replace any tooth because it integrates with the jawbone, your bone will be able to stay healthy in the long term. How are Dental Implants Placed?
Dental implants are made from titanium, and they look somewhat like a screw or a cylinder. Your surgeon will place the dental implant in your jaw, and over time, the implant will bond to your bone, forming an anchor for your new tooth. You may be given a tooth replacement option that you can temporarily wear over the implant until the second step of the dental implant procedure.
Once the implant and bone have bonded (this can take anywhere between 2 to 6 months), your general dentist will create a replacement tooth (called a crown), which is then attached to an abutment, which is simply a small metal post that attaches to the crown. Within a few days, your smile will be just like it used to be, and you will be able to chew and speak with confidence and ease.
Together with the team at the Center for Oral & Facial Surgery in San Diego, CA, we will find the best treatment plan for you so you can smile confidently again.
