All Teeth Replacement with Dental Implants in San Diego
If you’re missing all of your teeth, or they’re all starting to fail, then you’ll most likely need dental implants for an all teeth replacement. Thanks to advances in medical technology, you no longer have to suffer with uncomfortable dentures; instead, dental implants are able to restore your teeth close to their original condition. If you need to have all your teeth replaced in San Diego, CA, call our experienced team of OMS surgeons at the Center for Oral & Facial Surgery to find out how we can use dental implants to restore your smile and confidence.
Replacing all Teeth with Dental Implants
While many people used to have no other option besides removable dentures, technological advancements have made this replacement option less common. There are far better solutions nowadays. Removable dentures can be very bulky and burdensome, and often cause painful gum sores. In addition, the bone that used to surround your tooth will begin to deteriorate over time, which will affect your facial structure as your jawbone recedes. It’s also more difficult to eat certain foods, and you will notice that your smile may become less attractive over time. You will often need to use increasing amounts of adhesive to keep your teeth in place as your jawbone loses mass. For these reasons, we use tried and tested dental implants for all teeth replacement procedures.
While the precise method used for your replacement varies based on your specific condition, there are a few common treatment options we use. With a full arch fixed bridge, supported by dental implants, the dentures will be anchored to your jawbone with multiple implants. You’ll then receive a set of custom crowns which your surgeon and dentist will affix to your implants.
Another option we use is implant-supported overdentures. These differ from traditional dentures since they are supported by the dental implants which will fuse to your jawbone. With overdentures, you have increased options for cleaning or maintenance. Depending on the state of your teeth, you may need to have the implants placed first and wait for a few months for them to fuse before adding an extension (during this time you will have a temporary teeth replacement option to wear). In other cases, we can directly attach the extension piece immediately after placing your implants. You will be informed about which system is best for you during your consultation.
Finally, we may also use All-on-Four dental implants. This procedure allows us to place 4 or more implants into your mouth, after which we place an entire row of your new natural-looking replacement teeth. Unlike conventional dentures, there’s no adhesive, no need to remove them for cleaning, and your taste in food won’t be lessened because of the plastic base most dentures utilize.
