Replacing Several Teeth in San Diego
Losing multiple teeth not only makes you lose confidence in smiling or talking, but it can also pose risks to your oral and dental health. Fortunately, with dental implants, it is possible to replace several teeth and restore your self-esteem and smile in San Diego, CA.
If you are missing several teeth, your ability to eat many foods will be severely impacted. You may also find it difficult to speak properly, and you run a higher risk of losing the teeth adjacent to your missing teeth. With more than 30 million Americans missing all of their upper and/or lower teeth, you are not alone. With the exemplary, state-of-the-art care of our oral and facial surgeons at the Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, there are various options to restore your smile. The three most common options we offer for replacing several teeth are either replacing each missing tooth with a dental implant, using All-on-Four dental implants, or utilizing an implant supported bridge.
Dental Implants for Replacing Several Teeth
Dental implants are one of the most common methods to replace one or more missing teeth, as they look exactly like a natural tooth and function in the same way. They also help to preserve your jawbone better, as they replace tooth and fuse with the bone. In some cases, we simply replace each missing tooth with dental implants (you can learn more about how we use dental implants here. However, depending on the number of missing teeth you have and where they are located, there may be other, better options.
If you are missing several adjacent teeth, particularly your front upper and/or lower teeth, All-on-Four dental implants may be recommended by your oral and facial surgeon. Instead of needing multiple individual dental implants for every single missing tooth, you can get a full arch of teeth with just four dental implants. Your surgeon will simply place four implants on the top of your mouth, and then another four on the bottom. Over time, due to the titanium in the implants, your dental implants will fuse to your jawbone and be a part of it, making it the best foundation for your brand-new teeth. With the All-on-Four dental implant, they will function as the main anchors, and your surgeon can attach dentures as necessary. As with single implants, your teeth replacements will look and function exactly like your natural teeth.
One final option we sometimes use is an implant supported bridge, which will hold the dental bridge in place, as opposed to conventional bridges, which require having your natural teeth grinded down so they can function as a bridge anchor. By using dental implants to support the bridge, you’ll have a fully functional and aesthetic tooth replacement alternative in San Diego in no time.
