COVID-19 (Coronavirus) NOTICE
Information about the Coronavirus
At Center for Oral & Facial Surgery, we are committed to your safety, the safety of our staff and the community at large. We want to let you know the steps we are taking to alleviate your concerns and help prevent the spread of the coronavirus(COVID-19).
The California Dental Association strongly recommends that dentists practicing in California suspend nonessential or non-urgent dental care for the next 14 days. In order to comply, our offices will be closed for non-urgent dental care beginning Tuesday, March 17th, with a planned return date of Monday, March 30th. As always, we will be available as needed for emergency care and services during this time.
We will continue to monitor the latest information from local, state and national officials to insure our precautionary measures are following their recommendations. In the meantime, you can take steps to prevent the spread of this virus.
- Wash your hands frequently for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Maintain a 6 foot distance between anyone who is coughing/sneezing
If you have a cough, fever or shortness of breath, contact your primary doctor for evaluation. We are confident that working together, we will get through this and we join you in care and concern for all those that have been affected by this virus.

Our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) is a branch of surgery specializing in treating and diagnosing injuries and diseases located in hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) regions. This form of surgery requires as much as 6 additional years of both hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training, after graduating from dental school. Our OMS surgeons are trained in both medicine and dentistry, so they can expertly treat many oral issues, such as impacted teeth and facial trauma, as well as different benign pathologies. This includes techniques that can help rebuild bone structure with as little surgical intervention as necessary, all while providing maximum patient comfort. Working alongside our Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. James R. Eckstein, Dr. Brian K. Oleksy, Dr. Jason B. Gile, and Dr. Derek J. Havas, is a team fully trained in assisting with IV sedation and outpatient general anesthesia. Of course, this all takes place in our modern, state-of-the-art facilities, where patients are monitored during and after all surgical procedures.
Oral and Facial Surgery Procedures
For patients who suffer from gum disease or tooth decay, we offer dental implants to restore your smile and take care of serious oral health issues such as advanced periodontal disease, that function exactly as natural teeth. With the latest advances in technology, you will be able to eat virtually anything while smiling with confidence, since your new teeth will look completely natural and keep your facial contours preserved. Other benefits from our varied dental implant procedures include improved oral health and speech, as well as durability, since dental implants generally last a lifetime.
In the event a patient does not quality for dental implant placement, bone grafting is an alternative. We offer major and minor bone grafting to repair jaw defects, as well as various other procedures such as a sinus lift or ridge expansion. Bone grafting may be done after teeth removal, dental implants, or may simply be necessary if you have lost teeth and your jaw condition is not in optimal shape (which often contributes to the appearance of premature aging.) This procedure helps us to preserve the shape and strength of your jawbone and can also increase the possibility of your having an implant or denture placement in the future. In addition to that, bone grafting will prevent your mouth from shrinking over time.
If patients suffer from impacted teeth, we can perform wisdom teeth removal, a procedure that takes under one hour. A very common procedure, wisdom teeth must often be removed once they emerge and are retained. Without removing them, you may suffer from tooth decay, gum disease, and orofacial pain. If you have a wisdom tooth extraction, we will remove all parts of your wisdom teeth, including the roots. Once they have been removed, you will suffer from less oral and facial discomfort, have a decreased risk of oral disease, and have fewer headaches (if you were suffering from them when your wisdom teeth started to emerge.)
We also provide impacted tooth surgery for teeth that cannot erupt. This can lead to severely painful infections if your tooth remains stuck in your jaw, which may then require a tooth extraction. However, we will do whatever possible to aid eruption to avoid impacted tooth surgery.
For patients who have suffered facial trauma, we can treat various injuries such as knocked-out teeth, fractured jaws, and facial lacerations.
Finally, for patients seeking a more cosmetic procedure, we offer BOTOX®, which provides dramatic results that can reverse common aging effects, such as lines and wrinkles. Since our oral and maxillofacial surgeons are trained not only in dentistry, but also medicine, they are intricately familiar with many aspects of the face. This makes our team prime candidates to ensure you have a truly natural and successful nonsurgical cosmetic procedure.
